This is a good afternoon activity with your minis and as it requires basic ingredients, it is not a tricky one to have to prepare. Salt dough can be used for so many crafts, from the handprints shown below to ornaments and even gift tags.
You will need:
1 cup of plain flour
1/2 cup table salt
1/2 – 3/4 cup of water
Mix the dry ingredients together and then add the water a bit at a time and mix until you have a dough. Knead it for a bit (not too long though…), and there you have it – salt dough.
Now for the important bit…getting the minis involved. Harry and Harriet volunteered their services at this point.
Once you have a rolled flat surface which is about half a centimetre thick get the minis to press their hand into the surface to create an indent. The result…two little hand prints captured in salt dough.
I then remembered I had some alphabet rubber stamps so used them to put their names around the edge. They then get put on a baking tray and popped into an oven on the lowest setting for 4-6 hours, turning after 2-3 hours.
Once the dough has been baked it can be painted or left in its natural state…you (or the minis) decide.
