We were invited to the launch of new girlswear brand, Hello Bezlo this week and when we saw that there would be sparkles and computer coding we were intrigued and felt it was definitely a brand we should see. Sadly Katie was unable to go so Georgie took Harry and her goddaughter Evie to investigate.
When we arrived we were greeted by the gorgeous founder, Clodagh Connell. Her enthusiasm and vision for the brand was infectious. Whilst we chatted to her about the inspiration to create the pieces in her first range for Hello Bezlo, the little ones quickly made themselves at home colouring, computer coding (with the help of Coder Dojo) and Evie was in her element as set to work painting her face with colour, glitter and all round sparkliness (as the invite promised).
Hello Bezlo has been founded by Clodagh as she wanted to fill a gap in the market which brings,
“children’s wear for the adventurous, outdoors girl who loves to climb trees, dreams of flying in space, and writes code… but still enjoys a sparkly tutu for a tea party”…without the sickly pinks, butterflies and garish prints so often seen in a girlswear department.
The brand decided on the name “Bezlo” as a completely new concept. It describes a girl who is neither tomboy, nor girly girl. She does not feel the need to prefer one type of play or another. She is free spirited, strong but loves a bit of sparkle and magic sprinkled throughout her daily life (who doesn’t?).
The clothes are for “Bezlo girls” aged 2 – 10 and are made ethically to fair trade principles and incorporate organic cottons and eco friendly dyes. The dresses feature space adventure as well as binary code which forms a subtle pattern in a couple of the dresses (the code spells out Hello Bezlo!). Details we liked were hidden pockets which did not interfere with the design but allowed little girls to carry about their essentials – from hairbands, to a favourite stick or little treasures discovered on her adventures.
So, how you can you get your hands on one of these dresses from the range? Hello Bezlo is starting its journey through Kickstarter which is fast becoming a popular choice for small brands with a exciting and unique idea. The dresses start at €55.00. Our favourite is the striking Rocket Girl dress with the cape in charcoal grey with a shimmer shot through it, this is priced at €80.00. The items are available to pre-order for delivery in March 2016 although for €120.00 you can have a dress made especially for Christmas – a real treat for all little girls out there.
