We showed you some of our favourite Christmas Advent calendars for the holiday season last week (see here) but now we thought we would tell you a little about another great Advent idea we came across a couple of years ago.
If you have mini bookworms in your household and adore collecting books for the family, then why not try this idea… A Christmas Book Advent. A new Christmas/holiday related book for each day of the Advent – so you could do the 24 or alternatively the 12 days before Christmas. Whichever way you do it, it is such a lovely way to get the whole family excited about the upcoming festivities.
We know the costs at this time of year can add up dramatically, so don’t forget you can always seek out books from charity shops or on eBay, and Amazon also sell second hand books in various states of wear.
Here are a few of our favourite Christmas books to get you started…
Snow by Sam Usher – join and a little boy and his grandad on their extraordinary snow day. A very simple book (so one for the younger readers) but beautifully illustrated and told by the boy. No doubt it will get your little ones excited about the prospect of snow this year.
…..
Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree by Robert Barry – Mr Willowy’s Christmas tree was the biggest he had ever seen. Follow this delightful journey of the top of the Christmas tree as it moves from home to home via the gardner, Barnaby Bear, Frisky Fox and more. Perfect of the whole family.
…..
The Night Before Christmas an absolute classic by Clement C. Moore and available in many different guises. We have this one illustrated by Robert Ingpen. It has particularly large text so is perfect for the children to get involved and try to read it themselves.
…..
And some others that we love to help you get to 12 or 24…
So get your Christmas wrapping paper ready and off you go… A nice way to label each book in your Christmas Book Advent could be with these fabulous Glittery numbered tags from With Love from Josie that we recently discovered – the perfect way to finish off the surprise we think.
What are your families’ favourite Christmas Books? We would love to know.
