We have been a bit busy these past few weekends, with trips away with girlfriends in the sunshine – and it has been glorious! Though those first few times away without the minis can be difficult, once you get into the swig of things, isn’t it so much fun. We thought we would share some of our recent top holiday beauty essentials to pack for a long weekend away in the sunshine. We hope it gives you some inspiration or at least a bit of a skincare guide, if, like us, you leave packing to the last minute…First things first, a great pair of sunnies. Then, a book (something which for most of us mums is a complete luxury). We know that we’re late in reading Gone Girl, but with babies and toddlers in tow it is sadly inevitable that reading is at the bottom of the pile of priorities. A beach bag. We love a classic straw market basket at minis AND MORE… And lastly, a wrap. One that doubles up as a sarong as well as a scarf for the evening if it gets a bit chilly, perfect for when you’re packing light.
Hair next. There are a few brands we love to use in the sunshine. Kerastase being one, particularly for longer holidays. But for a short break, you can’t beat these mini travel bottles of Bumble and Bumble Surf. Follow that with some Moroccan Oil treatment to keep frizz at bay. Also pictured below is a fabulous Gilette Venus Snap travel razor. They have finally come to UK stores and are so great to pack away in their own little case.
Some of our favourite staple beauty items for a holiday are – waterproof mascara, a nourishing lip tint, an SPF tinted moisturiser and an easy eye product that can be used as a liner or blended to give all over the lid coverage. These are all lightweight and easy to pack products. Not forgetting eyelash curlers of course. We wouldn’t be without them. The Nars Sheer Domination Palette pictured is the one we show you in our March Monthly favourites video and includes a bronzer, three blushes and a gorgeous shimmery highlight.
Good SPF coverage for the face and body is paramount, so we always wear an SPF 30 on our body. Lancaster Sun Beauty being one of our favourites. For the face we both love Zelens Daily Defence Sunscreen which is an SPF 50. We both struggle with troublesome hormonal spots and so a good SPF for the face can often be difficult to find. Zelens is a pricey one, be warned, but it is fantastic. It doesn’t clog the pores and absorbs into the skin really well.
Hawaiian Tropic Aftersun is an oldy but a goody. We have both been using this for years. The smell is addictive and the consistency is light and it absorbs well. Best of all, it can often be picked up in a 3 for 2 offer at Boots! If you have never smelt it, then what are you waiting for. You will not be disappointed, we promise.
That mini bottle above is a little bottle of dreams. The this works deep sleep stress less roll-on oil is a more concentrated version of the Pillow Spray that we have both been using since our first minis were born (see our New Mum Beauty Essentials Edit). Often we struggle to switch off and settle to sleep in a new environment, so the roll-on helps us to relax and feel calm. It’s also great to use on your temples and wrists during a plane journey if you are a nervous flyer.
Georgie is well practiced at self-tanning, and gets into a good routine over the Summer months. Katie on the other hand, not so much. Finding this works perfect legs skin miracle was a godsend. It gives a lovely golden shimmer, that contrary to the name, can be used all over the body. Georgie has been converted too, and it is now a holiday staple for us both.
When it comes to a holiday scent, nothing says Summer more than Nuxe Prodigieux le perfum. Honestly, it is Summer in a bottle, we can say no more.
If you are a regular reader of the blog or watch our then you will know that we are big fans of Green People organic skincare products. They kindly sent us the Age Defy+ Cell Enrich Facial Oil recently which we have been testing. We thought we would see how it fared in a hotter climate and it was delightful. It has a fabulous scent which you can’t help breathe in when applying. You instantly feel calm. A great product for after a day in the sun. It is a light enough oil (compared to many other brands) that you can wear it not just at bed time, but during the day too – which surprised us. One pump of the facial oil under a BB/CC cream or foundation and your skin will feel nourished all day long.
So, those are our go-to holiday beauty essentials when we are heading to the sun. What are yours?
